Steve Miles - Ray White
Steve Miles knows the property market on Waiheke Island well.
A resident for over 30 years, he worked within the island’s thriving construction industry specialising as a stonemason and solid plasterer.
A fall from scaffolding resulted in major back surgery and brought forward a change in career.
These days instead of building houses, he’s selling them.
Having worked on many prestigious projects on the island Steve brings a wealth of knowledge about property and house builds to his sales role at Ray White Waiheke.
Trained in the UK to hand-carve lettering in stone, his first job in NZ was selling headstones for a top company in Symonds St. Auckland.
“I'm pretty good at listening and I am compassionate … Selling headstones requires an ability to deal with people’s emotions.
Buying and selling property is also an emotive process for many.”
His down-to-earth and good-natured approach combined with a sense of humour will appeal to many property owners and buyers alike.
“I am a direct person, plain-speaking, I like to keep things simple.”
And he is keen to promote the island lifestyle to newcomers.
“I lived on Guernsey before I came to New Zealand. Islands are like a big village, it's a relaxed lifestyle here and you quickly get to know people.
There’s a good community and it’s great for bringing up kids.”
A father of four, all of whom were schooled on the island, Steve enjoys walking and cycling when he’s not in the office, he also finds time for his other passions, cartooning and sculpting.
If you happen to be in Wellington, you’ll see his work on the foundation stone at Te Papa Museum, unveiled by the then Prime Minister Jim Bolger.
