Commercially astute, Ling has a Bachelor degree in Business Finance from Boston University in the United States. She followed this up by a 14 year career at the Chase Manhattan Bank and American Express Bank in Jakarta as a corporate trader in the Treasury department.

Brought up in a household of two cultures, Ling is fluent in three languages - Mandarin, Indonesian and English and is adept at communicating with a broad range of people. Now a New Zealand Citizen, Ling still remembers moving to Auckland in 1999 with her two sons and has a natural empathy for the challenges involved in moving overseas.
