Waihi Beach offers nine kilometres of sweeping white sand with one of the safest surf breaks in New Zealand. It brings people back each summer to just relax or enjoy activities out on the water or along our coastline and bush. There's something to suit everyone and every budget with a wide range accommodation and dining options.

Waihi Beach is located at the western boundary of the region. From the northern end of Waihi Beach you can access the beautiful Orokawa Walkway. This eight kilometre walkway offers fantastic views and winds along the coastline to Orokawa Bay and further up to Homunga Bay, which are both secluded beaches that are great spots for a picnic.

The township of Waihi Beach itself has a number of accommodation options and there’s a daily bus service between Tauranga and Waihi Beach. The main street in Waihi Beach includes cafés and takeaways suitable for a day at the beach.

Nestled down the road from Waihi Beach is Athenree, a tranquil harbourside haven. Next stop is Bowentown, a popular spot for family picnics, fishing and swimming. Bowentown Domain, located on the headland at the northern entrance to Tauranga Harbour, offers a series of walks which take in culturally significant sites such as Maori pa that date back several hundred years. Another great walk is to Orakawa Bay which is a 3.3 km track start at the north end of Waihi Beach and winds its way around a couple of headlands with stunning views of the Bay of Plenty and Coromandel Coast and before dropping down to a spectacular beach.

With a permanent population of 4000 and a New Year population of 20,000 Waihi Beach has had to grow over recent years! We now offer a variety of shops with a relaxed shopping atmosphere and fabulous cafe culture with plenty of choice to cater for just about everything. No matter what your age or interests Waihi Beach has plenty to offer!
