Moving to Te Awamutu?
Te Awamutu is a vibrant rural community in the heart of the Waikato region and is located about 30km south of Hamilton City. Surrounded by many smaller rural communities, Te Awamutu provides a diverse range of services, facilities and attractions.
Set on easy rolling terrain and surrounded by some of the best farmland in New Zealand, Te Awamutu is home to around 12,000 people. In English, Te Awamutu translates to ‘The River’s End’ as the town is on gently undulating land close to the banks of a tributary of the Waipa river.
The township is often referred to as ‘The Rose Town of New Zealand’ because of its elaborate rose gardens in the centre of the town and many local businesses use ‘Rosetown’ in their name or a rose as a symbol on signage. The town has a large dairy factory and serves as an important centre in the local dairy industry. Together with nearby towns of Kihikihi and Pirongia the Waipa District makes up one of New Zealand’s most fertile dairy farming areas due to its proximity to the mighty Waikato and Waipa rivers.
