Waihi Beach is a coastal town at the western end of the Bay of Plenty. The beach itself is 10km long. At the northern end is the 360 acre Orakawa Scenic Reserve replete in established untouched native bush and walking tracks. Attractions include the cafes, eateries, the Waihi Beach Hotel, boutique shopping and activities of fishing, cycling and surfing.
A 10 minute drive away is Waihi township. Coined the 'Heart of Gold' because of its three centuries of gold mining that are still active today - the open-pit is fully operational. The town boasts a diverse range of businesses and a rich history. Ohinemuri River courses through the town to the Karangahake Gorge. Recreational activities can be found in abundance including trout fishing, walks and the cycle track called Hauraki Rail Trail.
