It is an exceptional person who can lay claim to a career that spans over 30 years in real estate. Marcus Hill can. Born in the UK, Marcus comes from a long line of school-teachers but seriously considered becoming a farmer when he left school. Instead he embarked on a career as an estate agent. After completing an Estate Management Certificate from Reading University he joined a large general practice. Later, he developed and built a flourishing real estate firm in the Midlands. With business partner Mike he ran it successfully for over 10 years in conjunction with other partners. Operating with 9 offices and 82 employees they also established a large country homes division and new homes department comprising a diverse range of property services including valuations, liquidations and planning consents. In 2000, a Kiwi friend was looking to move back to New Zealand and buy property and convinced Marcus to accompany him on a trip that was to change the course of his life. Three years later Marcus sold his share of the business in the UK and with wife Emma and then three-year-old son Charles moved to New Zealand. Following stints in Auckland in real estate and recruitment and as Sales Manager for a construction company, Marcus approached Megan Jaffe and became one of the early members of her Ray White Remuera team in 2008. Living and working in Remuera, Marcus set about focussing on serving clients in this community. But in one of those twists of fate which seem to follow Marcus around, he found himself selling a property in Karaka a few years back. When he successfully sold that property much to the profound gratitude of his vendors, he was asked to sell another nearby and before he knew it he was the only Karaka and Drury real estate specialist based in Remuera. The paradox is that many buyers of the properties he markets in this beautiful rural region migrate from the city. Marcus’s capacity to get results for his residential contacts in Remuera and also to serve his rural client base is hugely beneficial to both parties. Trusted, sociable, and an expert negotiator with a significant track record, Marcus has extensive connections both urban and rural. His leisure time is spent with family, renovating his old villa in heartland Remuera, walking the dog and taking his Honda VFR motorbike for a ride on the open road. Recently he has partnered up with his colleague in the Ray White Papakura office, Ian Buchanan. Their association has evolved from doing business in the same territory and forging connections with the network of locals who live there. Their unique synergy brings individual skills to the table and they are an exceptional team.
