My banking, mortgage background helps serious buyers prep bank-required valuations, building reports, and insurance early. Getting buyers fully prepared gives them an edge to win at auction while helping vendors maximize their chance of a successful sale

Bob joined Barfoot & Thompson and became a real estate salesperson in 2023. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, which lets buyers and vendors work in the language they are most comfortable in. It removes a barrier that quietly costs vendors money — a buyer who doesn't know the ropes when it comes to auctions, or what a LIM report is telling them, is a buyer who bids cautiously or walks away.

Bob came to real estate by an unusual route. He arrived in New Zealand in 2001 as a student and completed a Bachelor of Business Studies at Massey University. His career since then has covered retail management, international customer service, banking, community fundraising, and mortgage broking. All of it turned out to matter more than he expected — the Qatar Airways years taught him to stay calm and professional with people from every culture, the banking and mortgage years gave him a strong network of clients, and all those years sharpened his communication skills, his problem-solving, and ability to get results.

He spent five years as a grocery duty manager at New World, leading a team and learning how a local community really works. He then spent three years as cabin crew with Qatar Airways, flying with colleagues worldwide. Back in New Zealand, he worked at ANZ Bank and later became a licensed mortgage broker, helping families get home loans.

What clients mention afterward is his involvement. He helps with presentation before the campaign starts—furniture, staging, and gardens. He calls after every open home with feedback, good or bad. His banking and mortgage background means he can identify serious buyers based on how they prepare before the auction—such as handling bank-required valuations, insurance, and building reports—helping his buyers stay one step ahead of the competition.

He lives on the North Shore with his family and works the streets he knows first-hand. His particular strength spans family homes to new builds and development houses, and he works across the whole North Shore.

Testimonials

"A Professional Agent Who Truly Puts Buyers First Bob was professional, patient and genuinely helpful throughout our home-buying journey. What we appreciated most was that he took the time to understand what we were actually looking for and recommended properties that suited our needs, rather than simply sending us every available listing or trying to push us towards a quick purchase. Throughout the process, including the building inspection and our lawyer’s due diligence, a number of questions and issues came up. Bob was always responsive and provided practical and reasonable advice when we needed it. More importantly, we felt that he communicated and approached these issues from our perspective as buyers, rather than simply focusing on getting the deal done. Buying a home is a major decision, and finding the right property for your own circumstances is far more important than simply buying a property. Having a professional and trustworthy agent who understands what you need can make a real difference. We are very happy with our experience with Bob and would happily recommend him to anyone who is currently looking to buy a home or planning to do so in the future."
