Since joining Bayleys Gisborne in 2019, Stephen Thomson has brought deep local knowledge, industry expertise, and a strong network across the East Coast’s rural sector.
With over a decade of consultancy and governance experience on Māori Incorporation and Trust boards, Stephen has developed strong ties to the land and people, which he leverages to deliver exceptional outcomes for his clients.
A firm believer in continuous learning, Stephen stays closely attuned to market trends, legislative changes, and regional developments to ensure his advice is always timely and relevant. His strategic insight, paired with a practical, hands-on approach, has made him an integral part of the Bayleys Gisborne Rural team, contributing to their REINZ Small Rural Office of the Year award and earning him personal recognition in Bayleys' Top 5% of agents in 2023.
Whether negotiating high-value deals or walking the land with buyers, Stephen brings energy and authenticity to every interaction. His clients benefit from clear communication, professional systems, and strong campaign management, supported by his Personal Assistant, Debs Quilter.
Outside of real estate, Stephen is a passionate community advocate. He founded Surfing for Farmers in 2018, an initiative that helps farmers connect, recharge, and support one another, now running in 27 locations nationwide. Stephen’s community involvement extends to serving a long-standing executive role in the Poverty Bay A&P Association and Ngatapa Rugby and Associated Sports Club, alongside numerous governance and support roles on community and professional boards.
Stephen balances his professional life with family, time on the farm, and life in the great outdoors. Whether spending time with his wife Nicole and their two kids, Jasper and Sylvie, or heading out hunting, surfing, or enjoying sport, he remains grounded in the lifestyle and community he proudly serves.
