Born and raised in the heartland of Marlborough's wine country, John has a strong sense of family values, which he and his wife have passed onto their two teenaged children. John played provincial Rugby for Marlborough and rowed at National Provincial Level. Nowadays, John still loves to get out on the water and enjoys scuba diving and boating around the Hauraki Gulf with friends. He is an integral part of the community and enjoys helping younger athletes reach their goals and is involved with Rowing at Auckland Grammar Rowing Club where now his son rows.
