Community service is important to Murray. Along with many years coaching rugby, Murray spent over a decade as president of the Kamo Cricket Club. He was the foundation member of the Kamo Sports Charitable Trust Board and sat as chairman for some years, working hard toward the establishment of a new cricket and tennis club room and playing/practice facilities. Murray also sat as the chairman of St John for some years, providing a platform for the delivery of St John services to Whangarei and Tutukaka
In younger days he played representative sports in various codes as well as running marathons. Nowadays Murray enjoys time on the ocean with rod in hand when possible.
Murray and his wife Leah work together to provide a first rate service. Leah is the administration engine in the partnership.
